Cooper copper goes missing

By Jim Wallace - bio | email

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –   Crooks stole several hundred pounds of copper wire, worth about $900, from inside the closed Cooper Tire Factory.

The Cooper plant manager told Police that 300 to 500 pounds of copper wire was missing from a warehouse behind the plant.

Investigators say metal theft has been a continuous problem,  but the number of thefts seems to be on the upswing again.

"People need to be aware," said Dougherty County Police Captain Jimmy Sexton. "If they have some property, they need to check on it, and make sure people aren't in there stripping out the wire."

Investigators say no one broke into the Cooper Tire warehouse, so they suspect someone working there took the hundreds of pounds of wire.
