VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –A Lowndes County boy wants motorists to share the road more safely with bicyclists.

14-year old Michael Jacobson put together a bike ride this weekend to honor his uncle.

Doug Flynn was killed six months ago after being hit by a car in Arizona.

The 7-mile bike ride is also Jacobson's Eagle Scout project.

He wants motorists and cyclists to watch for each other.

He's also emphasizing the importance of wearing a helmet.

"This Saturday it's an awareness ride not a race, so everyone stays in the group together and you ride slowly through the city just to promote awareness," said Jacobson.
