ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany State baseball team has finished runner up for three straight years in the SIAC tournament and second place isn't good enough for the Golden Rams.
Albany State opened up the SIAC tournament at Paul Eames Park in Albany on Wednesday with a 15-0 win over LeMoyne-Owen followed by an 8-7 win against Benedict.
Albany State scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back beating LeMoyne-Owen 15-0 in 7 innings.
Williams Smalls had a perfect day at the plate for Albany State going 3 for 3 with 3 RBI.
Tyler Rich pitched all 7 innings for ASU to earn the win. He struck out 5 and allowed 4 hits.
In the second round of the winner's bracket Albany State had it's hands full against Claflin.
In the 2nd inning the Panthers went up 6-0 on a 2 RBI single from Robert Platts ending the day for ASU starting pitcher David Lewis.
The Golden Rams wouldn't panic and scored 8 of the game's final 9 runs to escape with an 8-7 win.
William Smalls led the way for the Golden Rams at the plate. In the two wins he went 6 for 8 and finished with 5 RBI.
Albany State will play Benedict at 1:00 on Thursday at the Paul Eames Park. Tomorrow's schedule is as follows:
