ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The mothers of three famous hip-hop stars came to Albany Thursday not to talk about their sons, but to bring attention to the power of Mentors.

T-Pain's mother Aliyah Najm, Lil' Waynes mother Jacida Carter, and Ne-YO's mom Loraine Smith talked to a group at Albany State about the Pretty in the City Mentor campaign.

They say even the best parents can use a little help from good role models to make sure their children succeed.

"The parents don't necessarily have the time, but if there's someone there who can fill the gap, someone at the church, school, or a neighbor," said Loraine Smith, Ne-Yo's Mother.

"Pretty in the City Mentor Campaign is to show the importance of being pretty inside and out so we brought the mothers to emphasize that," said Talia Ashley, Hip Hop Grows Up Founder.

The mothers are also hosts of a new television show called Dinner Table Discussions.
