Fitzgerald hires Robinson

April 6, 2003

The search for a head football coach at Fitzgerald attracted some very big names and this morning principal David Mims announced that Metter's Robby Robinson will be the Purple Hurricanes next coach.

Fitzgerald High fans may not be that familiar with the name of Robby Robinson, but they are familiar with his ability to coach.

Robinson was the defensive coordinator at Swainsboro when the Tigers beat Ffitzgerald  6-0 in the 2000 AAA state championship game.

Robinson left Swainsboro to become head coach at Metter High.

In two seasons, Robinson won 21 games and took the Tigers to the class-A semifinals two consecutive years.

Robinson replaces Robby Pruitt who was hired last month at Warner Robins.

Robby Robinson was hired from a field of six candidates that included Cecil barber of class-A state champion Clinch County, Bill Clark of class-A state runner-up Dooly County. Roger Holmes of state AAA runner-up Dublin and Thomas County Central assistant coaches Bill Shaver, III and Michael West.
