Rams celebrate another big year

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The athletic year is far from over but Albany State honoring their student athletes for another banner season of competition at the annual athletic banquet Tuesday.

Plenty of trophies were handed out.

Callie Hamilton was presented with the first ever Ram Award.

Football star Demetrice Johnson is the male athlete of the year and Carolina Ribeiro from the volleyball and tennis teams is the female athlete of the year.

The banquet is one of the last events for athletic director Dr. Joshua Murfree who will soon be Dougherty County School Superintendent.

Dr. Murfree proud of everything the Rams accomplished on the field and in the classroom.

Dr. Murfree said. "What is important is that our student-athletes are taking care of business in the classroom. I am proud to have been a part of this great tradition. I know the Golden Rams will continue to move forward in everything they do."


Dr. Murfree will stay on at ASU until he is officially hired as Dougherty County School Superintendent.
