City television broadcasts could stop

April 15, 2003

Albany-- Next week's Albany City Commission meeting may well be the last one broadcast on television.

Mayor Tommy Coleman says the broadcasted images give the city a bad image. Coleman, along with Commissioners Jon Howard, Henry Mathis and Bob Langstaff voted in favor of stopping the televised meetings.

Coleman says surrounding communities pick up the cable access channel, and many elected officials have commented about the bad manners at the meetings, "But I do, as you know, talk to elected officials from other places and they have commented about the conduct of our meetings and they have expressed condolences that I have to preside over it."

The Commission will have a final vote next Tuesday night.
