Don't cash that unexpected check...

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –   An East Albany couple got a check for thousands of dollars. They want to warn you that the tempting offer is a scam that could be very costly.

Shelby Prather's wife received the letter Monday with a Canadian postmark and stamp. Inside was a check for $3,970 from a company called B & H Photo Video, and a letter asking her to be a mystery shopper.

She was supposed to spend $90 at one of six big stores, keep $300 dollars, and wire $3,200 dollars back to the company. The check is fake, and Prather worries many people will cash it.

"Yeah, that's why I called. Around here in this little neighborhood, if anybody gets one of these right here, first thing they will do is go cash it. They ain't going to look at the paperwork, or nothing like that," said Prather.

Prather assumes many of his neighbors are getting the same scam letters, and wants to warn them not to fall for the con.
