Last minute filers flock to post office

By Wainwright Jeffers - bio | email

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – There were a long lines of cars at Albany's main post office Friday as l rushed to get their returns in the mail before the midnight deadline.

Deidre Groves came prepared to mail her son's return. She ended up selling extra stamps to some taxpayers who didn't bring any.

"It's my son's state return. I did mine back in January. I did his federal back in January. I've just been putting it off, putting it off, and putting it off, and here I am," said Deidre Groves, Late Taxpayer.

For years, the Post Office had workers outside until midnight personally taking people's tax returns.

Since so many people e-file now, they decided not to do that this year.

But they will pick up the mail at midnight at the main post office, so if you get your form in the mailbox before then, you'll beat the deadline.
