One big hurdle for Albany State coaches when recruiting local players is most want to go to college away from home.
Not Monroe High basketball star Brandon Johnson.
The power forward signed a scholarship to play for the Rams.
Johnson has been one of the top players in the city for the last three seasons.
He averaged a double-double the past two years.
Johnson says he is excited about the chance to help take the Rams basketball program to the next level.
Brandon Johnson said. "If you play well no matter where you go people will recognize you. That is what I want to do. That is why I came to the conclusion to Albany State."
Former Monroe and current Albany Tech guard Wilbur Lake is also headed to Albany State.
Lake was an all-conference player for the Titans where he averaged 12 points and game and made 78 three point baskets.
Lake becomes the fifth Albany Tech Titan to play for Albany State.
He believes the chemistry with those Titan teammates will help the Rams next season.
Wilbur Lake said. "Not only will we have good chemistry on the court but off the court we are really good ?friends. So, I think that will help out a lot."
Wilbur Lake will graduate Albany Tech with a Pharmacy Technology degree this summer and will major in chemistry at Albany State.
