TIFTON, GA (WALB) –A young bald eagle on the verge of death was rescued and saved, thanks to the help of concerned residents and a south Georgia veterinarian.

A Colquitt County farmer found the eagle on his farm.

Former DNR ranger Chet Powell notified Dr. Larry Branch in Tifton.

Dr. Branch says the bird couldn't hold its head up and appeared to be just hours from death.

The eagle was starving and had a severely deformed beak.

"When birds of prey have more than one born out of the clutch sometimes the dominant one will actually push the weaker one out of the nest and there is a good chance that happened," said Dr. Larry Branch.

The bird has made its way to a rehabilitation Center in Alabama, where it will hopefully survive.
