BAKER COUNTY,  GA (WALB) – A Baker county family lost their home to fire Monday morning while away on vacation.

Tommy Watson's brick home caught fire around 3am on Highway 253 just north of the Decatur county line.

A family member who lives next door saw the flames and called 911. Firefighters spent more than an hour putting it out and say it's a total loss.

"It looks like the kitchen and carport area is where most of the damage was concentrated," said Charles Parker, volunteer firefighter for Baker County.

They aren't sure where or how the fire began. An arson investigator will make a trip to the home sometime Monday.
