    The rate increased because of seasonal factors, such as the summer job loss among non-contract school workers and temporary layoffs, primarily in manufacturing. There were 60,500 jobs in Albany in June, down by 300, or 0.5 percent, from 60,800 in May. Most of the loss came in state government and the service-related industries.More >>

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Three people were held at gunpoint and attacked by a trio of home invaders, it happened around six thirty Sunday morning.

Police say two women, and one man were in this home in the 400 block of Poplar Street.

The victims heard someone kick in the door, three men burst in and demanded money from the victims.

Investigators say at least one of the suspects had a gun. When they told the robbers they didn't have any money, the victims were then physically assaulted.

In another incident a man was robbed and injured by two suspects in east Albany. It happened just after 7:30 Saturday night.

The victim said he was walking in the 1400 block of Radium Springs Road near Oakridge.

59-year-old Jerry Baker told officers two black men, wearing black shirts, robbed him.

He said one of the suspects struck him on his back and foot with a bat.

He was injured and treated at the scene by EMS.
