State lawmakers make headway on budget

April 11, 2003

Albany- Friday, the senate passed a budget that does not include any tax increases. The $16 billion budget does include spending cuts and will only balance if legislation passes requiring businesses to speed up the time their employees' payroll taxes are due to the state.

"We came up with enough cuts, enough belt tightening, and using the reserve funds, which is what they're designed to do, to balance a budget without raising taxes and we're real proud of our work," says Lt. Governor Mark Taylor.

Lt. Governor Taylor says while the Senate's budget has a long way to go, he's trying his best to help develop a budget that will not include any tax increases.
