ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The goal was to bring about awareness to their cause and promote fitness at the same time.

On Saturday morning close 100 runners made several laps around the Darton College campus.

It was part of the school's Global Awareness Run.

There was 5 kilometer race and one mile walk-run.

Thanks to sponsors and registration fees the event will raise money for scholarships for international students through the recently started Global Education Department.

"We have a race to raise money because the economy, we all know what it is right now and scholarship money is hard to come buy and we want to make sure that more students are able to attend college," said Dr. Ulf Kirchdorfer, Executive Dean of Global Education.

This was the first year of the run, they hope to do it again.

Organizers say they raised about $7,000.
