ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Tift County has already exceeded its Census participation rate from the last Census, but local leaders are pushing for more people to return their forms.

60% of Tift County households have returned their forms this year. The total rate in 2000 was 58%. City and county leaders say it's important for everyone to fill out a form so the community gets its fair share of federal funding.

According to the 2000 census, the population in Tifton was 15,000.

"This is information that's good for schools its good for paving our roads its good for hospitals nursing homes so for everything in the community, business economic development this pot of money comes from that so that's why we need to push that," said Samantha Lawson, Senior Center Director.

If you have not received a Census you can get one at the Tift County Chamber of Commerce, the Senior Center, the Library or the YMCA.
