ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  A superintendent candidate Dougherty County School Board members passed on was hired last night by the Sumter County School Board.

Dr. Roy Brooks the former Little Rock, Arkansas superintendent was hired in a five to four vote. School Board chairman Dr. Michael Busman said the vote was so close because they had three strong candidates, but Brooks was hired for his strong leadership skills and fiscal management.

Brooks is expected to sign a three year contract worth 165-thousand dollars annually. Brooks will take over as superintendent July first, replacing Dr. Dennis McMahon who's retiring.
