A concerned citizen is stepping up to help the children who have been devastated by the tornado in Oklahoma.More >>
ALBANY, GA (WALB) – An Albany chemical manufacturing plant remained idle Monday after a fire ripped though the insulation of a storage building on West Oakridge Saturday.
The cause of the fire at Equinox Chemical still remains under investigation. Engineers had to reroute electricity around the storage area, but the company plans to be back up and running Tuesday.
Firefighters say structural beams in the building were damaged, so structural engineers have been brought in to determine if repairs can be made or if it will be torn down.
"We've got contractors on site today trying to assess what the damage is, but it was all contained in one area of the building so it didn't affect any of our administrative or laboratory or production areas," said Equinox Chemicals LLC Owner Mark Grimaldi.
Employees today helped with the clean up. A firefighter who became sick as a result of possible chemical exposure was treated and is doing fine.
