THOMAS COUNTY, GA (WALB) – 39-year-old John Mark Morris was shot once in the chest, in the back yard of a home on Stewart Road a little after 2:00 Thursday.

Morris was transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital where he died.

The suspect, who is in the Thomas County Jail, is 72-year-old Byron Griner. He will be charged with assault and felony murder. The two men are related.

Lt. Steve Jones with the Thomas County Sheriff's Office said, "The GBI and our guys are still actively working the scene to determine exactly what happened. They also have a suspect that they're talking with right now."

No charges have been filed against that suspect.

The Thomas County Sheriff's office would not tell us whether Morris lived at the house.
