Desoto, GA (WALB) – A well-known South Georgia restaurant is closed after a fire, but the family who owns it says they will be back as soon as possible.
Cutts Restaurant in Desoto in Sumter County burned a little after 7:30 Wednesday night. It was closed and no one was injured.
One of the owners spotted smoke pouring out of the kitchen as she drove to church.
Investigators don't yet know the cause of the fire that gutted most of the inside of the restaurant.
"On the inside it's pretty rough. Even the cash register melted, like ice cream. So it must have been hot. They say it was about 300 degrees in there," said Restaurant owner Willie Cutts.
Dozens of people stopped at the restaurant today to check on the owners. The Cutts family has run the restaurant for more than 15 years. They say it may take a month or so, but they promise to reopen as soon as they can rebuild.
