ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Georgia's Attorney General went on national television Wednesday night to defend his decision not to sue over the new federal health care law. Thurbert Baker appeared on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Mathews.

Governor Sonny Perdue asked Baker to join a lawsuit filed by 14 Republican state attorneys general. Baker said he closely studied the issue and found no legal basis for a lawsuit.

Tuesday, Republican state lawmakers introduced a resolution to impeach Baker for abdicating his constitutional duties. Baker told Mathews, "There's nothing in the Georgia Constitution and nothing in our statutory law that requires the Attorney General of this state to file a frivolous lawsuit."

Baker says he believes any legal challenge to the health care law will fail and joining in would be a waste of taxpayers dollars.
