ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It is game week for the Albany Panthers who play their first ever game in the Southern Indoor Football League on Saturday against the Columbus Lions.
Before the Panthers tee it up for the first time, head coach Luscious Davis beefing up the roster with several former South Georgia Wildcat players.
Since the Panthers opened training camp two weeks ago, head coach Luscious Davis has signed former Wildcats defensive backs Demetrie McCray and Levance Richmond.
Both McCray and Richmond were release by AFL teams in the last week.
Davis was also able to talk receiver Clinton Rafe to come play for the Panthers.
Rafe caught 25 touchdown passes for the Wildcats last season and was at practice on Tuesday.
The former Albany State star believes he will be ready to go for Saturday's season opener.
Clenton Rafe said. "Getting up to speed that is not a big deal because I played in the offense last year. Me and Cecil we have got a good connection and I know the plays. I was working out back home. I am ready to go."
Demetrie McCray said. "I played for coach Davis last year so I know his system. It is kind of easing the transition. A couple of my teammates are here from last year. It is a good fit for me so I am good."
The Albany Panthers play their first ever game Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against the Columbus Lions at the Albany Civic Center.
