The airport will receive a $620,806 grant for needed improvements.
The grant will be distributed through the Federal Aviation Administration within the U.S. Department of Transportation to update aircraft parking and operations around the new terminal.
The funding will also allow for reimbursement of terminal planning for the new terminal building relocation project that will provide for improved safety, security and efficiency.
"As we focus on economic development and work to meet Georgia's current and future transportation needs, it is very gratifying to have this level of federal support for Southwest Georgia Regional Airport," said Isakson.
"I know this is great news for the folks at the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport," said Chambliss. "As a frequent visitor, I'm pleased to announce this important funding. Southwest Georgia Regional Airport certainly contributes to the economic vitality in the area, and these infrastructure upgrades will provide the opportunity for further growth."
