ATLANTA, GA (WALB) -  Since winning the ACC title and playing a BCS bowl game, Georgia Tech has had a tough offseason.

Four of their best players all decided to skip their senior seasons for the NFL and quarterback Josh Nesbitt is out for spring practice after having ankle surgery.

Without Nesbitt and with several new assistant coaches, Georgia Tech opened spring practice Monday.

New defensive coordinator Al Groh is already installing his new 3-4 defense.

On offense, the Jackets not only lost running back Jonathan Dwyer and receiver BeBe Thomas.

They also lost backup quarterback Jaybo Shaw who transferred to Georgia Southern.

Nesbitt's ankle surgery will allow Tevin Washington, Jordan Luallen and David Sims plenty of reps in the battle to be Nesbitt's backup.

Paul Johnson said. "New system and new coaches and to get the familiarity down and try to build some depth. Just get better. Everybody has got things they have got to get better at individually and we have a lot of things as a team we have to get better at."

The Georgia Tech spring game is April 24th.
