Breezy weather raises wildfire risk

By Cade Fowler - bio | email

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – As south Georgia welcomes breezy springtime weather the Georgia Forestry Commission is warning people to keep a close eye on burn piles and campfires.

Three years ago this month Georgia endured the largest wildfire in state history.

Officials say the number one cause of wildfires is escaped debris burning.

Experts urge burners to monitor wind conditions and say the best time to burn is mid-morning and early afternoon.
