Surveillance cameras capture Moultrie robbery

MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) – It's nearly 9 o'clock Sunday night and workers at Oxley's Food are preparing to close for the day. Only a handful of customers are in the store, but outside three men are preparing a heist.

"They were all dressed in black. One of them had a white shirt on his head as the video shows," said Corporal David Underwood, Moultrie Police Department.

Surveillance cameras inside and outside the store capture the suspects every move. At 9:02 p.m. the trio enter the store. Startled cashiers look on in horror as the bandits pull out guns while screaming at employees and patrons to get on the ground.

"The store employees did exactly what they're supposed to do which is to cooperate and not fight (the robbers)," said Underwood.

One of the suspects is armed with a double barrel shotgun - the others handguns. A planned, team operation unfolds as two robbers tend to the customers and cashiers while a third gunman raids an office area.

A camera positioned just feet away rolled as the hooded gunman grabs a clerk by the hair and points a pistol at her head.  Less than a minute has passed when he swipes the cash tray and takes off running.

"I'm sure they've probably been in there a number of times. I'm sure they've checked it out. But it was quick," said Underwood.

The men ran across West Central Avenue leaving a trail of coins behind. A K-9 was brought in but lost the scent.

This is not the first time Oxley's on West Central has been the target of an armed robbery. Right now police don't have any suspects but feel confident someone knows the identity of the masked robbers.

Anyone with information is asked to call MPD at 890-5451. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
