Dougherty County commissioners want to slow speeders

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Dougherty County commissioners are looking for ways to slow speeders. People in the unincorporated areas of the county complain that drivers are speeding through their neighborhoods.

Southgate is one area where it's a problem. The County is considering purchasing speed tables, which are like elongated speed bumps.

Commissioner Jack Stone said, "It's dangerous to the public. Kids playing on bicycles or so forth in the yard and people going there going 35, 45, 50 miles per hour and these things here will slow you down, I'll assure you."

Before the county can install one, a speed study must be conducted to establish that a problem exists. Then, petitions must be signed by residents, and approved by the county commission.
