VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) – Health care reform is now law, but the debate over it continues.
Many people upset over the law voiced their opinions to Congressman Jack Kingston at a town hall meeting in Valdosta, but that wasn't the only thing on their minds.
It was standing room only at the James H. Rainwater Conference Center Monday, with about five hundred people attending the Congressman Jack Kingston's town hall meeting. Health care, of course, was a top concern.
"I think as a practicality you're going to have trouble repealing the whole deal but there ought to be areas where democrats and republicans can come together," said Kingston.
One citizen says the health care bill is something Americans can't afford. Congressman Kingston agreed that it's past time to get the country's debt under control.
"219 members of congress have committed treason," Tom McFarlane said. "I'm sorry that's my opinion they've committed treason. It's time for Nancy Pelosi and the 219 members to go."
"A lot of people have lost their homes their entire savings because they have not health insurance," said Desi Clarke.
Some of the issues Tony Christiano was concerned about were voter fraud and illegal immigrants.
"If we can take those 10 million to 12 million aliens having jobs here take them and deport them. Now you have 12 million jobs for Americans to use."
Cook County resident Mike Burton warns if haven't got your mortgage bills you could see a big increase.
"They put me into flood zone A and the stipulation with flood zone A is that there's no base elevation. They do not even know what the elevation is of a flood zone that they got me in yet and I'm suppose to pay three hundred extra dollars a month."
180 Lowndes High students were also in the audience getting their taste of government, one student stepped up to the mic asking how he could make a difference.
Congressman Kingston says he wants to protect constituents from what he says are unconstitutional health care mandates.
