Census bus stops in Albany

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Only about a third of south Georgians have mailed in their Census forms so far.  The Regional Census bus is swinging through southwest Georgia this week, as Census workers encourage residents to fill out their forms.

The bus pulled in at Albany State University Monday, as organizers spent several hours encouraging students and faculty to fill out their forms and send them in before Census day this Thursday.

Georgia is behind the national response average, which could put the state in danger of losing federal money.

"We really have to get our citizens moving make sure that they understand the Census is important, it determines how much of the federal dollars, over 400 billion dollars annually that each community will get a part of,' said Census 2010 Sr. Partnership Specialist Gloria Strode.

Organizers worry many people have piled junk mail on top of the forms and forgotten them.       They encourage you to find your form and fill it out.

It should only take a few minutes.     The bus will be in Macon Tuesday.
