Cat falls from tree

April 8, 2003

LEE CO. - A dramatic rescue attempt in Lee County this afternoon. The Shirah family's cat got stuck atop a 60 foot pine tree behind Chuck's Tux Shoppe Sunday. The family tried a professional tree climber, several power companies, and even smoking it out but Molly wouldn't come down.

Tuesday they called in a crane from Southway Industrial and our cameras went along for the ride. The Southway volunteer tried to get close to the cat, but it just kept creeping farther out.

Women screamed as the cat fell. The fall looked frightening, but as they say, a cat always lands on its feet. Molly was a little frightened and ran and hid in the house, but his owner says she seemed to be in good condition. She was just a little hungry after three days in a tree.
