ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Palmyra Medical Center encouraged the community to walk on Saturday and help cut down on two diseases which affect millions.

A few dozen people walked to raise awareness about Diabetes and Lupus at Palmyra Medical Center's back parking lot.

Lupus affects close to one point five million Americans and about twenty million people have diabetes.

"March the 23rd was Diabetes Awareness Day and we want to make people aware of Diabetes, the complications, and let them know we need to take care of ourselves." said Ruth Moore, Co-director Diabetes & Lupus Walk.

"We have to watch the things that we eat and we have to exercise. With Lupus it's the same thing you have to keep your joints moving because Lupus is a condition where you have joint pain," said Gwen Collins, Co-director Diabetes & Lupus Walk.

The Albany Fire Department and Police Department were at the walk talk to the community about what they do.
