ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Cecil Lester is planning to be a leader for the Albany Panthers this year and head coach Lucious Davis will give him that opportunity.
Eight days before the Panthers kick off the season Davis named Lester the starting quarterback.
Lester has spent the last three indoor football seasons serving mostly as a back up for the defunct South Georgia Wildcats.
Davis says he made the decision after watching Lester's performance in the Panthers Scrimmage on Wednesday.
"The way he carried the team, the way he led the team up and down the field, his leadership I just felt that was the right decision to make" said Davis.
The Panthers season opener is April 3rd against the Columbus Lions. Kick off is 7:30 at the Albany Civic Center.
