ALBANY, GA (WALB) – People in Albany came together tonight to help a family who lost a loved one.

On December 20th, John Slappey drowned when he was pulled over a spillway at the Jim Woodruff dam while duck hunting on Lake Seminole.

Friends organized Slap Fest, a concert and auction tonight as a tribute to Slappey and to help his wife and little girl.

"We're just doing it to raise money for his daughter and his wife, his daughter is 18 months old and raising a kid on a single income is pretty tough, so this money will go toward her college fund," said Andrew Dismuke, John Slappey's Brother.

Five bands performed tonight at Slap Fest at the State Theater.
