ALBANY, GA (WALB) – A suspected drunk driver out on a joy ride in Albany, ended up in some deep water Thursday.
It happened in a canal ditch around the 23-hundred block of West Gordon Avenue Thursday at 11 AM. Police say 40-year old Alexander Facon was driving his neighbor's Chevy Blazer around the drainage canal and pond and ended up crashing in the water.
Eric Roberts was fishing and saw it happen. He says after the Blazer crashed, the driver and passenger took off running. He says the driver had a beer in his hand. Roberts said, "He hit it and 'boom'! It just sunk down in the water and then they got out and ran."
Facon was taken to the Dougherty County Jail and charged with DUI and habitual violator status. His nephew and passenger, 19-year old Stanley Frierson was not charged.
