ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  State lawmakers will get a chance to vote on a proposed charter to consolidate Albany and Dougherty County.

Senator Freddie Powell Sims told us Thursday the legislation is scheduled to be read to the full Senate tomorrow morning, and she will support it. The charter is the city's version of the measure, that calls for a full time Mayor or Chief Executive.

If it's approved by the Senate and the House and signed by the Governor, a consolidation referendum would be put to city and county voters in the fall.
