AUBURN, AL (WALB) - It didn't take the Auburn basketball program a long time to replace Jeff Lebo.
Just twelve days after firing Lebo the Tigers announced the hiring of Tony Barbee.
Barbee comes to the Tigers after reviving the University of Texas El Paso program going 82-52 in four seasons. This past year he led UTEP to the NCAA tournament and finished with a 26-7 record. He was named Conference USA's coach of the year.
Auburn will pay Barbee $1.5 million annually over the next six years. He will receive a base salary of $225,000 with the rest coming from endorsements and television, radio and Internet rights along with fundraising and personal appearances.
Auburn was paying Jeff Lebo $785,000 before his firing after six seasons.
