Leesburg- Representatives from Leesburg, Smithville, and Lee County listened to research about the pros and cons of city and county consolidation. Both cities in Lee County have already consolidated a number of services.

"We need to try to do what's best for the city and whatever it takes to do that that's what we're going to do, but we don't need to get rid of everything we've got down there to make things work," says Smithville Mayor Pro Tem, James Champion.

"From what I hear the people don't want it, and if the people don't want it them I'm not for it," adds Lee County Commissioner, Jackie Sizemore.

The governments have not decided if they will pursue consolidation. Any consolidation attempts will have to be passed by the General Assembly and voters in the county.
