VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –It's international blogging day, and a south Georgia college is honoring some women on campus who are computer experts.

They're following the lead of a web site that's using March 24 to celebrate the achievements of women in science and technology.

Ada Lovelace is considered the first computer programmer.

In the early 19th century, she wrote controls for a machine called the Analytical Engine.

A web site in her honor asks people to blog about "unsung heroines" in the field.

Valdosta State University has also recognized its own eight women working in information technology, including Lisa Baldwin.

"It's really awesome that we have an opportunity to have a day of recognizing women in technology," said Lisa Baldwin,  VSU Assistant Director of Information Technology for Enterprise Application Services. "There are a lot of women who helped build the technology we use."

When Baldwin started working at VSU 24 years ago. There was only one other woman in her department.
