ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The Albany Civil Rights Institute got two major donations Tuesday to help keep the story of the movement alive.

Artesian Construction Company co-owner Glenn Singfield and Mayor Willie Adams each donated $5,000 each to the Civil Rights Center as Legacy pledges.

Their donations will be marked permanently by plaques on the pews in the old Mt. Zion Church.

Singfield said, "We think, being a part of this business community, it's an obligation on our part to do what we can to better the lives of all citizenry in this community."

Dr. Adams said, "I feel like we have an obligation to pass it on, let our young people know that freedom was not free and there were sure people that sacrificed to make opportunities for them to achieve."

A legacy pew pledge requires a donation of $5,000. You can donate online.
