Westover student is Region STAR

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –A Westover High school senior not only won STAR student for his school and for the whole Dougherty School system, he's now the regional STAR student.

Michael Lomax is the region 9 STAR student and will now compete for state. Lomax scored a 2320, out of a possible 2400 on his S.A.T.

Now, he's waiting to find out if he will be accepted into Ivy League schools Harvard, Yale, Columbia, or his top choice, Princeton University.

He says he was surprised that he won region. "It was an honor, obviously, but I wasn't expecting it going in, so when I actually found out that it was me, I was a little shell shocked at first, but it's a great honor," he said. 

Lomax will find out if he'll take the state title in late April.

    Lee County Fire Chief David Forrester said there were two people in the home, and they saw one person in the front yard.  Two people in the home were transported to Phoebe Putney.
