ALBANY, GA (WALB) –The Former Lee County Prosecutor and congressional candidate, Craig Mathis, is busted on narcotics charges.

Mathis is being held in the Lee County jail pending charges of possession of a schedule two controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession of a schedule four controlled substance.

Lee County Sheriff' Reggie Rachals says Mathis was arrested about 4 Friday afternoon in a joint operation by the D.E.A., GBI, Sheriff's Office, and Lee D.A.'s office, following a lengthy investigation. Mathis' Mercedes was also seized in the bust.

Craig Mathis ran for Congress in 1994, losing to Saxby Chambliss. He ran for State House in 2002. He was the Lee County Prosecutor in 1999.
