FITZGERALD - Fitzgerald's struggling car battery plant is shutting down, but only temporarily. Production will be halted at the Delphi plant next week and likely another week later this month. A company spokesman says its an attempt to slow supply without laying off more workers.

Eighty employees have already been layed off indefinitely at Delphi. 200 more will be out of work next week. The local United Auto Workers chairman said they will receive some form of compensation from the union.
