Moultrie man shot to death

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Moultrie Police looked for a murderer on Saturday, and by late afternoon had the suspect in custody.

He was arrested in Albany and maybe able to give them answers about the early morning homicide on Southwest 4th Street.

Twenty-nine year old Willie Bender Jr. was shot to death outside of a home in the 500-block of Southwest 4th Street.

"The call came in as multiple shots fired, the victim was in the front yard at the time," said Commander Alfonzo Cook.

The shooting happened just before before 6 a.m. Saturday, Bender died on the scene.

Albany police arrested a suspect in the case at the Albany bus station, he was wanted for an unrelated armed robbery charge, his name was not released.

"We're searching for motive and we also called the GBI in to assist us," said Cook.

"I'm upset about this situation because it touched close to home," said Sabrina Smith.

She wants answers.

"That's my grand daughter's father I hope they catch him, book him, lock him up, and don't give him bond," said Smith.

The suspect who shot and killed the victim did so across the street from a daycare center, luckily they were closed for the weekend.
