Insurer donates smoke detectors

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –    Georgia's Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner says this weekend when you move your clocks forward, you also need to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Last year, 15 Georgians died in fires in homes that did not have smoke detectors.

Friday afternoon, Pay Less Insurance Agency owner Dorene Taylor donated a case of smoke detectors  to the Albany Fire Department. Firefighters will give those smoke detectors to families that can not afford them.

"Pay Less Insurance Agency heard about the program, and we just wanted to be good corporate citizens, and give back to the community," she said.

Albany Firefighters will also install those smoke detectors for people who are physically unable to.  If your home does not have a smoke detector and can not afford one, you can contact the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Office at 404-657-0831.

In Albany you can contact the Albany Fire Department at 431-3262.
