ALBANY, GA (WALB) – A dead man was found in the back of an abandoned SUV in East Albany Thursday afternoon. Police and people who live nearby have a lot of questions.

A Department of Natural Resources ranger found the body around 3:30.

The SUV was parked on city property in a wooded area near a canal at Clark Avenue and Broadway Court.

"The flint river is nearby, people fish and dig for artifacts here, I was in the area on routine patrol," said Ben Roberts, DNR Ranger.

"I was told there was a dead body and we're concern neighbors and want to know why and what's going on," said Betha Hodges, Lives Near Crime Scene.

The SUV had a Florida license plate, but police are not sure the identity of the man.

They say the body was so badly decomposed, they're not even sure of his race.
