MACON, GA (WALB) - The Thomasville boys basketball team advanced to the state championship game of the AA GHSA playoffs Thursday night in Macon with a convincing 69-43 win over Jefferson.

Leading by seven at the half the Bulldogs opened up the 3rd quarter with a 13-2 run.  Thomasville outscored Jefferson 24-8 in the quarter.

"I think all year long we've been focusing on the 3rd quarter being a good defensive game for us and we came out tonight and demonstrated. We really wanted to focus on the defensive end coming out in the 2nd half" said head coach Ben Tillman.

"This is what we've been doing all season coach always just told us come out and get ahead and we'll be alright the whole game" said senior guard Fred Holton.

Sophomore forward Willie Clayton led the Bulldogs with 23 points.

"This is my first time in the state playoffs and it's just so exciting" said Clayton

The Bulldogs advance to the state championship game for the first time since 2006 and in convincing fashion. Thomasville has won every playoff game by double digits.

Thomasville will play Greater Atlanta Christian for the state title Saturday at 4:45 in Macon.
