ALBANY, GA (WALB) – What better way to celebrate being one of the top ten teachers in the state, than with an ice cream party.
That's just what Lee County teacher of the year Coni Grebel did Thursday. The entire school was treated to Blue Bell Ice Cream and Grebel was given four half-gallons of her favorite Blue Bell flavor Butter Pecan.
The folks at Blue Bell say there's no finer work than being a teacher. Grebel says she's honored and doesn't want to disappoint the school or community.
"Where are we at today without teachers and so we just feel really strongly about that," said Charlie Brown of Blue Bell Ice Cream.
"I'm still very much in a why me kind of phase but at the same time it's been a great motivator I don't want to let the other teachers from southwest Georgia down," said Coni Grebel, Lee County Teacher of the Year.
As a state finalist, Grebel will get a classroom visit next week from the state panel who selects teacher of the year.
She'll also sit down in interviews with the panel. This is the first time Lee County's teacher of the year has been a state finalist. The teacher of the year will be announced in May.
