ALBANY, GA (WALB) –The Southwest Georgia United Way has added another county to it's service area by merging with Sumter County.

Partner agencies met this week with the Sumter County United Way and were assured all the money raised in Sumter County would stay there. The merger has meant a little restructuring. Shelia Parks is now the area director and the Executive Board is now an advisory panel, but it will give Sumter County more resources.

"Many more resources, a lot more manpower, it's going to be an awesome thing for our agencies and basically that was a really smart move for us to make to have the most impact on this community," said Parks.

The Southwest Georgia United Way now serves 13 counties.
