April 2, 2003

Albany - Will the Governor's proposed cigarette tax stop children from smoking? Smoking continues to kills thousands of Americans each year. This is Public Health Week. And, health officials want you to know how they can help you kick the habit.

"The state quit line is helping dozens of people stop smoking," said Dr. Paul Newell, Public Health Director. "The Governor wants to increase cigarette taxes $.46 per pack and the higher cost would deter teenagers from buying that first pack of cigarettes."
