Willacoochee, GA (WALB) –  Investigators are looking for clues in a mysterious murder in Willacoochee. A young woman was found dead in her car Sunday.

Her friends are taking donations to help pay for her funeral as investigators try to find evidence that will lead to the killer

Investigators walked down railroad tracks, through empty buildings, searching for any kind of evidence to help them find 26-year-old Rosie Gaskins' killer.

"We're looking at anything of interest anything that looks out of place anything that looks fresh." said Atkinson Co. Sheriff  David Moore.

Atkinson, Berrien, Clinch, and Coffee county authorities were out Monday carrying flags to mark the spot of anything they found.

The sheriff says it could be awhile before they get the autopsy results.

"The way the state's budget shortfalls are the way they're closing crime labs left and right could impact our investigation," said Moore.

Authorities won't reveal their theories on how they think Gaskins was killed. They say the case is still in the early stages.

Down a dirt path off Springhead Church Road is where Gaskins was discovered. She was found dead in the driver's seat of her car just past the gate.

She was last seen alive on Saturday. Meanwhile, her friends are taking donations for funeral expenses for the woman they call "Rose Bud."

"If anyone can donate money that would be wonderful," said Jessica Cothron,a close friend and manager of the Chevron off Highway 82, where Gaskins was assistant manager.

"I had known her since she went to school and she was a good person a really good person really good worker. You couldn't get her to stop working," Cothron said.

Several customers dropped money into the jar for Rosie Courdle, friends say most know her by her maiden name.

"It's just a shock to the community," said James Gaskins.

James Gaskins isn't related to Rosie but is a customer of the store. He says she was young and that her murder has upset the entire community.

  • If you'd like to help with funeral expenses, contributions are being accepted by the Chevron Store:
